The Mediterranean Sea is a world of impressive diversity where ocean sunfish and whales live side by side, and colourful corals provide a home for smaller creatures. The impact has been devastating – today the Mediterranean is an ecosystem on the edge. But there is a glimmer of hope as measures to protect the sea from pollution and excessive disturbance are being put into place. Sandrine Ruiton from the University of Marseille specialises in research on artificial reefs to build up the lost marine biodiversity near cities like Marseille, one of the Mediterranean’s busiest po...

The railroad car ferries were some of the safest vessels on the Great Lakes, built to withstand ice and waves year round. But on October 22nd, 1929, the SS Milwaukee sailed into a force 9 gale and disappeared. Was it foolishness on the part of the ship's captain, Robert "Heavy Weather" McKay? Or was he ordered to sail by the railroad company? Was there a design flaw with the ship itself? Or was there a conspiracy to cover up unsafe business practices? John Chatterton and Richie Kohler compare the official post-accident investigation with the wreck itself, and re-write history.

An episode of the History Channel's "Deep Sea Detectives" from 2003 explores the story the slave ship Henrietta Marie. The Henrietta Marie was a London-based slaver that sailed in the Triangular Trade between England, Africa, and the Americas from 1697-1700. The ship was wrecked near Key West, Florida in the summer of 1700, after having sold nearly 200 African people in Jamaica. The shipwreck site has been the subject of extensive archaeological study, and this program provides an overview of that research.
